Skywatch at Northwest River Park

Interested in learning about outer space? Head over to Northwest River Park on Saturday, January 21 at 5:30 p.m. for a free skywatch!

Join the Back Bay Amateur Astronomers (BBAA), learn about their scopes and ask them your most pressing questions at this free event. Several large telescopes will be set up, and guests will get a tour of the night sky, while learning about telescopes and astronomy.

Weather permitting, this fun event will take place at the Equestrian Area at Northwest River Park. Call (757) 421-7151 to confirm.

Do some good for the Girl Scouts of GSCCC at the 3rd Annual Cookie Classic on Saturday, January 21. This charity run will raise money for the local Girl Scouts council with two fun runs throughout the day.

Starting at 9 a.m., the Trefoil Trek 5K will be open to kids and adults. Directly following, the Samoa Stroll Kid's 1-miler will start at 10 a.m. You can also participate in both events for the Thin Mint Challenge. There is a medal for the 5K finishers, a fun patch for the 1-milers, and all participants will receive a T-shirt.

Noon Year’s Eve Bash: Countdown to Noon!

If your kids are too young to stay up until midnight on New Year's Eve, then turn the clock around at the Noon Year's Eve Bash: Countdown to Noon! This annual family event will be held at the Portsmouth Art & Cultural Center, and it will feature all of your favorite New Year's traditions exactly twelve hours earlier.

The Countdown to Noon begins at 11 a.m., and it features arts and crafts that kids and parents can do together, live music, and much more. Once the clock strikes noon, there will be a New Year's Eve countdown complete with a kid-friendly toast. Best of all, the Countdown to Noon is free and open to the public!
