Glide and Ride at MacArthur Center’s 2014 Winter Extravaganza Near Northwest
January 2, 2015
The holiday season has come to a close, but winter fun is still in full swing at the MacArthur Center's 2014 Winter Carnival. This annual, outdoor festival gives Norfolk a reason to brave the winter chill with nine family-friendly rides, including a Tilt-a-Whirl, spinning tea cups, and a LED-illuminated Ferris wheel that stretches 55 feet into the sky. Race some friends from Northwest to the top of the 20-foot-tall fun slide and enjoy a thrilling rush to the bottom, then take a ride on the Rio Grande train or the Red Baron airplanes. Moreover, the Winter Carnival coincides with MacArthur on Ice, which invites the public to glide around a 7,200-square-foot outdoor ice rink, perhaps pausing for sips of hot cocoa.
Entry to the Winter Carnival is free, but rides are pay-as-you-go: $1.25 for a single ticket, $25 for 25 tickets, or $40 for 50 tickets. Admission to MacArthur on Ice is $6, plus a $6 to rent ice skates. Present a military ID to get in for $5! Both events conclude Monday, Jan. 15.
