33rd Annual 4th of July Great American Picnic and Fireworks: Ooh and Aah Along the Waterfront
July 1, 2015
There's perhaps no better way to pay homage to your country than by enjoying a fireworks display on Independence Day. In Norfolk, locals have been doing just that for more than three decades. That's thanks to the 4th of July Great American Picnic and Fireworks, now in its 33rd year. It unfolds at Town Point Park, which is just a stone's throw away from Northwest, so you shouldn't have a difficult time loading up the family and getting them there—whether you go by car, Tide Lightrail, or water taxi.
Once you arrive, the real fun begins. The U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command Band will be setting the soundtrack for most of the evening, so grab some grub and enjoy the tunes. Burgers, hot dogs, barbecue, and seafood come from the grill, while sides such as corn on the cob and watermelon make for a sweet complement to your meal. Bring along a blanket or chairs so that you're ready to revel in the awe-inspiring fireworks display at 9:30 p.m.
